例えば昇段審査が迫っているとします。
出来る人は、余裕を持って１年前から防具の製作を始めたり、稽古を開始します。
余裕を持って昇段審査に挑むことができます。ダメな人は、審査の前日に面縁の黒の塗り直しをしたり、紐を交換します。バタバタして、ぎこちないまま当日を迎えることになります。
手刺し防具は製作に時間がかかるのは分かっていることです。
良い防具を作るのには時間がかかります。にも関わらず、
「来月までになんとか仕上げてほしい！」
「昇段審査があるんだ、どうしても早く欲しい」
という人は正直まだ、手刺し防具は相応しくないと思います。（どんなに急かされても、作れないものは作れないんだけどね）他にもっと納期優先の剣道具はいくらでもありますから。
修理にしたって同じです。
出来る人は、小さい穴が空いたらすぐ修理にだしたり、定期的に防具のメンテナンスをします。ダメな人は、手入れが雑でボロボロ、ほったらかしにするので、手刺しやミシン刺に関わらず、剣道具が長持ちしません。
昇段する人、しない人。こういったところからして違うんです。
ちなみに、当店のお客様は本当に六段審査、七段審査の合格率が高いです（八段審査合格もいらｌしゃいます）。
手刺し防具はね、急ぐ人ほど間に合わないんです。
